Remember the really sweet and simple girl from ‘Wake up Sid’ who we all loved? We may remember her from a lot of bold roles from other movies too. Well, that’s Konkona Sen Sharma; and it appears she has made her maiden attempt at direction.
If that’s not reason enough, the movie features Kalki Koechlin as the female protagonist. And we all know Kalki’s movies always have a little touch to them. Gulshan Devaiah will be seen playing Nandu Bakshi, a middle class family man from Calcutta. Bollywood actress Tanuja Comes Back To The Silver Screen After Five Years will be seen essaying the role of Om Puri’s wife.
Set in the 1975, the movie titled “A death in the gunj” is a deeply philosophical movie about the journey of the lead character through conflicting ideas of masculinity.
The movie is coming to India after being premiered worldwide at several movie desticals and having won several awards. It was chosen as the Opening Film for the 18th Mumbai Film Festival where it was screened on 21 October 2016 and where director Konkona Sen Sharma received the ‘Master Card Best India Female Filmmaker 2016 Award’.
A Death in the Gunj also had its US premiere as the Opening Film of its 13th South Asian International Film Festival on the night of 30 November 2016.
With all this buzz around the movie, the audience are pretty stoked about it. And we are sure it will be a treat to our intelligentsia!
Starring Om Puri, Tanuja, Vikrant Massey, Kalki Koechlin, Jim Sarbh, Tillotama Shome, Ranvir Shorey and Gulshan Devaiah. A death in the Gunj is slated to release on June 2.
