Opportunities lie in problems. There are no opportunities lying around for 8 billion people: Arunachalam Muruganantham or PADMAN
Arunachalam and Bill Gates have common traits. Those are also common with Late Steve Jobs. All three had vision to do something for noble cause. All three of them wanted to make lives of people easier.
All three of them had knack for engineering. They were interested in how things worked. Three of them had innovative minds. Bill Gates was Harvard dropout, Steve dropped from Reeds, but Arunachalam Muruganantham (Menstrual man or PADMAN) is school dropout. He studied only up to 9th grade in vernacular language school. He worked as assistant to a welder. So our PAD MAN has learnt it the hard way. But he has higher chances of getting a Noble prize (opinion wise in Medicine). In 2014 at an event Great Challenges 2014 sitting beside Bill Gates, he emphasised that linguistic is not related to innovation, and Bill Gates agreed with him in nodding.
Our PAD MAN is phenomenal in giving lectures like Steve Jobs was. He was invited to speak at IIT Bombay (along with director Mr. Balki and lead cast member Akshay Kumar of movie PAD MAN), IIM Ahmadabad, IIM Bangluru , Harvard and finally TED-talk which is one the fastest rising platform for visionaries, authors, business people like our PAD MAN. He shared his life experience, his struggles and various setbacks along with learning involved in becoming PADMAN.
What makes our PADMAN’s life different than Steve Jobs? PADMAN has mission to make his self made machine available to all villages. He did not want to sell his invention to big multi nationals because he believed they will commercialize it so much making it expensive and out of the reach of poor village women. He observed that the affordability was biggest issue in napkins. He invented a cheap machine unlike a expensive and imported machine. The machine makes very cheap sanitary napkins using same material thanks to research of our PAD MAN. His company JAYAASHREE Industries employs local women giving them livelihood along with teaching them usage of sanitary napkins and replacing it with the dry ash, leaves, cloth used until now. He needs no marketing managers (SORRY IIMs). His aim to reach millions can go beyond globe with media and connectivity.
All these seem like one time tasks. It is not. There were challenges in life of PAD MAN. But ultimately he succeeded because he believed in making a solution to a problem.
“There is opportunity in problem. There are no opportunities lying around for 8 billion people. Find the solution to the problem lying around and you will make good money, good society” quote by PAD MAN at Grand Challenges 2014.
All these challenges are described in upcoming movie PADMAN starring Akshay Kumar as PAD MAN or Arunachalam Muruganantham, Radhika Apte as wife Shanti, and directed by R balki. Hitting theatres on Friday 9th February 2018 across India. PADMAN is like a super hero movie depicting life of a real super hero Arunachalam Muruganantham and how he takes pain to make lives of millions of poor women better in taboo hit society.
